About the Role
We are seeking a energetic and growth oriented occupational therapist to help our kids develop play, cognitive, physical, and motor skills by incorporating their knowledge of activities of daily living, visual perceptual skills, visual motor integration, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, sensory processing, etc. into functional activities to achieve measurable outcomes. The OT should identify the presenting problem, diagnose underlying causes, treat symptoms contributing to the problem, and communicate with families to ensure treatment is relevant to their family.
Requirements
Primary Job Duties
Monitor patients' progress and adjust treatments accordingly.
Administer occupational therapy evaluations, tests, or examinations to patients to collect information on type and degree of impairments, using written or oral tests or special instruments.
Develop or implement treatment plans for play, cognitive, physical, and motor skills, based on own assessments and recommendations of physicians, psychologists, or social workers.
Consult with and advise educators or medical staff on occupational therapy strategies.
Communicate with non-speaking students, using sign language or computer technology.
Evaluate occupational therapy tests and medical or background information to diagnose and plan treatment.
Write reports and maintain proper documentation of information, such as client Medicaid or billing records or caseload activities, including the initial evaluation, treatment, progress, and discharge of clients.
Participate in and write reports for meetings regarding patients' progress, such as individualized educational planning (IEP) meetings, in-service meetings, or intervention assistance team meetings.
Educate patients and family members about various topics, such as techniques or strategies to cope with or to avoid personal misunderstandings.
Supervise or collaborate with therapy team.
Consult with and refer clients to additional medical or educational services.
Minimum Standards
Valid OT license from the State of Jersey
Maintenance of personal liability insurance in the amount of $1M/$3M
Compliance with the dress code, time and attendance and office appearance requirements above.
Professionalism: All encounters should be performed with a positive, helpful attitude.
Communication: All communication from clients, doctors, office staff, etc. should be answered within 24 hours during our normal business hours. Calls/emails received during non-business hours should be answered during the next business day.
Clinical Reasoning/Judgment is applied in all situations. Clinical reasoning incorporates the following:
Identification of the problem that a family faces.
Identification of relevant facts. Identify appropriate foundational knowledge integral to the current health condition including biological and physical factors. Determine relevant ICF components as they relate to the patient case.
Discussion of what could happen if left unattended.
Suggestion of actions by therapist to solve the problem. Determine appropriate testing/measures/interventions to perform. Demonstrate the ability to effectively perform the test or measure. Incorporate effective communication strategies.
Analysis and discussion of potential results of suggested actions
Continuous evaluation of actions.
Assessing, planning, and organizing habilitative and rehabilitative programs to help build and restore vocational and daily living skills, as well as general independence.
Use of therapeutic techniques, adapt the individuals’ environment, teach skills, coach parents, and modify specific tasks that present barriers to children and their families.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 25 – 40 per week
